Job Summary

The Surgical Technician assists with surgical procedures through scrubbing duties. This role is responsible for preparing for procedures and assisting the operative team, including the preparation and maintenance of sterile supplies. Housing may be available within walking distance to the hospital.

What You'll Do

• Create and maintain a sterile field.
• Inspect sterile items for contamination before opening.
• Anticipate the need for equipment and supplies before the case begins.
• Ensure all equipment is functioning properly before use.
• Operate and maintain mechanical, electrical, and air-powered equipment according to manufacturer's instructions.
• Scrub all surgical procedures and understand the specific needs, techniques, and requirements of the individual surgeon.
• Demonstrate the ability to scrub specialty surgeries independently, including those in sports medicine and trauma.
• Assist the RN with the completion of operative charge and documentation of hardware used during procedures.
• Collect specimens and cultures, verifying the source and correct tissue identification with the surgeon.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required.
• One year of experience in an operating room as a Surgical Technician or completion of Surgical Technician training required.
• Certification or eligibility for certification preferred.
• American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification required.
