Accounting Manager Location: Sebastopol, CA (Hybrid) Schedule: Standard business hours; onsite Monday, Wednesday, and Thursday Duration: 4 to6-month contract M-F, full-time (40 hours); W2 Start Date: ASAP Pay Rate: $72/hour, W-2 with Tailored Management benefits Background Requirements: Criminal background check, financial verification, and education verification Position Overview Our client is seeking an experienced, hands-on Accounting Manager to lead day-to-day accounting operations during an exciting period of growth and business integration. This full-time contract role supports a fast-growing consumer packaged goods company with approximately $100 million in annual sales and 40 employees. The Accounting Manager will own the accounting function, monthly close, inventory accounting, accounts receivable, customer chargebacks, and multi-state sales tax compliance. This person will partner closely with company leadership, Operations, Supply Chain, Sales, Customer Service, and finance integration stakeholders to maintain financial discipline while preparing processes and systems for future integration. This is a working-manager role. The ideal candidate is comfortable performing detailed accounting work directly, improving processes, and operating independently in an entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment. Key Responsibilities General Accounting and Financial Close Lead daily accounting operations and maintain accurate general ledger activity. Own monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes. Prepare and post journal entries, reconciliations, account analyses, and supporting schedules. Deliver timely, accurate financial reporting. Maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls. Support external audit activities as needed. I nventory and Manufacturing Accounting Manage inventory accounting, reconciliation, valuation, and cost-accounting processes. Reconcile inventory balances with warehouse activity. Support manufacturing and co-manufacturing accounting. Analyze inventory variances, manufacturing costs, and related operational trends. Partner closely with Operations and Supply Chain to support inventory planning and reporting. Accounts Receivable and Customer Chargebacks Oversee customer invoicing, cash application, aging, and collections. Manage customer deductions and chargeback research and resolution. Partner with Sales and Customer Service to resolve billing discrepancies. Improve accounts receivable reporting and operating processes. Sales Tax, Controls, and Process Improvement Manage multi-state sales tax filings, exemption certificates, and related compliance records. Coordinate with external tax providers as needed. Maintain strong accounting controls and documentation. Identify and implement opportunities to simplify workflows and improve accuracy. Support preparation for future systems integration and SOX readiness. Partner with finance integration stakeholders as needed. Required Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting or Finance. 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience. Experience as an Accounting Manager, Senior Accountant, or in a comparable accounting leadership role. Strong month-end close, general ledger, journal entry, and account reconciliation experience. Manufacturing and inventory accounting experience. Accounts receivable and customer chargeback experience. Multi-state sales tax experience. Advanced Excel skills. Ability to work independently and effectively in a small-company environment. Preferred Qualifications CPA certification. Consumer packaged goods experience. Experience supporting acquisitions, integrations, or significant business transformations. QuickBooks Online experience. Cin7 or comparable warehouse/inventory-management system experience. Experience working across multiple ERP or accounting systems. Demonstrated success improving accounting processes and documentation. Working Environment This role is performed in a hybrid office and remote environment. Regular activities include working at a computer, communicating with cross-functional partners, attending meetings, and performing standard office-based responsibilities.
