About the job

An established medical device company is seeking a Principal Scientist, AI/ML to help build and scale next-generation AI-enabled technologies focused on procedural imaging, computer vision, and surgical workflow optimization. The organization is investing heavily in AI/ML capabilities as part of a broader initiative tied to procedural video analysis, imaging systems, and physician-facing clinical technologies within the MedTech space.

This is a highly hands-on role at the intersection of AI/ML, medical imaging, and product development. The ideal candidate has experience building applied machine learning systems in healthcare or medical device environments and is comfortable operating directly within fast-paced, execution-oriented teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Own AI/ML model architecture, technical direction, and scientific execution across new product initiatives

• Design and support machine learning pipelines, dataset strategy, validation workflows, and evaluation methodologies

• Partner closely with software engineering, R&D, and clinical stakeholders throughout development and deployment

• Help define scalable infrastructure, deployment strategy, and data management processes for AI-enabled systems

• Attend physician visits and procedural environments to better understand workflows, data generation, and real-world product applications

• Drive highly applied AI/ML research focused on product-oriented and commercially scalable outcomes

• Help establish best practices and foundational processes as the organization builds out its AI/ML capability

Your Experience

• Strong hands-on experience building and deploying AI/ML systems in healthcare, MedTech, imaging, or related technical environments

• Proven track record bringing products or technologies from development through commercialization

• Experience working with imaging data, computer vision, video analysis, or procedural/surgical datasets is highly preferred

• Ability to communicate effectively across technical teams, leadership, and physician stakeholders

• Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, AI/ML, Physics, or a related technical discipline

• Comfortable operating in fast-moving, highly collaborative, and execution-driven environments

• Experience within startup or growth-stage MedTech organizations is strongly preferred

Additional Details

• Hybrid preferred with approximately 3 days/week on-site

• Travel expected approximately every 2–3 weeks during the first year
