The Role

We are looking for a hands-on Controller who understands the nuances of:

• Project-based accounting
• Revenue recognition (percentage-of-completion, accrual)
• Utilization & realization metrics
• WIP management
• Labor multiplier modeling
• AEC-specific P&L structures

This role is not just oversight — it is implementation.

We need someone who can:

• Assess our current financial structure
• Identify best practices
• Clean up and optimize our books
• Implement scalable financial systems
• Prepare us for continued growth

Key Responsibilities

Financial Operations & Cleanup

• Review and clean up general ledger structure
• Ensure proper project-based accounting
• Align revenue recognition with AEC best practices
• Improve WIP tracking and backlog reporting
• Standardize chart of accounts

Reporting & Structure

• Redesign and implement best-practice AEC P&L format
• Develop project-level profitability reporting
• Implement utilization, realization, and margin tracking
• Improve monthly close process
• Produce leadership-level dashboards

Strategic Finance Support

• Improve financials visibility and margin tracking
• Develop forecasting model tied to hiring and backlog
• Establish best-practice financial controls
• Support leadership with strategic financial insights

Systems & Process

• Optimize accounting systems (Zoho, etc.)
• Recommend improvements or scalable upgrades if needed
• Implement SOPs for invoicing, AR/AP, and payroll coordination

Qualifications

• 8+ years accounting experience, required experience within AEC, engineering, construction management, or professional services
• Strong understanding of project-based accounting
• Deep familiarity with AEC KPIs (utilization, net service revenue, multiplier, backlog, WIP)
• Experience cleaning up and restructuring accounting systems
• Comfortable operating in high-growth environments
• CPA preferred but not required
