Description:

The Surgical Technologist assists surgeons, anesthesiologists, and registered nurses in delivering safe and effective surgical care. This role is responsible for preparing the operating room, ensuring all necessary instruments and supplies are sterile and ready, and providing technical support during surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare operating rooms for surgery by setting up surgical instruments, sterile drapes, and equipment.
  • Ensure all supplies are sterilized and functioning properly before procedures.
  • Assist surgeons and nurses during operations by passing instruments and maintaining the sterile field.
  • Count sponges, needles, and instruments before and after surgery to prevent retained items.
  • Handle specimens and deliver them for laboratory analysis as directed.
  • Maintain patient safety by following strict aseptic and infection control procedures.
  • Anticipate the surgeon's needs and respond quickly and accurately during surgery.
  • Clean and restock operating rooms after each procedure.
  • Participate in emergency situations by preparing necessary instruments and supplies rapidly.
  • Assist in the maintenance and inventory of surgical supplies and equipment.
Qualifications
  • Education: Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
  • Certification:
    • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Experience:
    • 1+ years of experience in an operating room setting preferred (new grads welcome in some facilities).
  • Knowledge/Skills:
    • Strong knowledge of sterile techniques and surgical procedures.
    • Excellent attention to detail, communication, and teamwork skills.
Work Environment
  • Typically works in hospital operating rooms, surgical centers, or specialty clinics.
  • May require evening, weekend, or on-call shifts depending on department needs.
  • Must be able to stand for long periods and lift or position patients and equipment.
