The PMTC Plate Shop is an integral part of the dynamic team at Keysight, supporting the production of state-of-the-art technology. Our plating operations apply precious metals to components to protect them from corrosion and enhance their electrical conductivity. As a result, the parts significantly increase in value during their time in the shop due to both the added materials and their critical functional requirements. Electroplating is a precision-driven process that requires exceptional attention to detail to prevent damage at this final stage before shipment, as well as strong coordination to ensure we meet all customer expectations.
The Plate Shop is classified as a wet-process area because components are immersed in a series of chemical tanks or baths in a specific sequence to achieve the desired results. While controls and PPE are in place to reduce risk, the chemicals used are hazardous, requiring operators to maintain a high level of caution and follow all safety procedures closely.
Electroplating is heavily documentation-driven, and operators play a key role in determining the plating area and applying the correct electrical current for the proper duration. They work closely with Engineering to ensure documentation supports consistent, high-quality production. Before value is added and again prior to shipment, operators also perform detailed inspections-using various levels of magnification-to identify and remove any defective parts, ensuring only quality product moves forward.
