Summary: The Controller will apply principles of accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing statements, and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures. Supervises and trains day-to-day general accounting functions and accounting operations.

The Controller is responsible for:

  • Cash flow management
  • Financial reporting – monthly, quarterly, annually
  • Compliance reporting – tax returns with CPA, compliance & regulatory filings
  • Cost analysis – job cost, labor cost, overhead/administrative cost reporting
  • Record preparation and management
  • Creditor relations
  • Accounting department structure and operation including staff management.
  • Update, implement and manage internal controls
  • Maintain and update accounting software
  • Create strategies to minimize financial risk within the business
  • Create and improve accounting processes
  • Look for ways to cut costs and improve profitability
  • Review and approve chart of accounts setup
  • Develops Accounting Department Org Chart
  • Develop and implement various forecasting model – annual pro-forma, cash flow projections, ect

In the performance of these functions, it is the Controller's responsibility to protect and promote Earthtone Construction's interests in all matters and to do what is reasonably necessary to discharge his/her duties and responsibilities.

Duties and Responsibilities: (include but are not limited to the following) :

  • TRANSACTIONS
    • Ensure that accounts payable are recorded accurately and paid in a timely manner
    • Ensure that all reasonable discounts are taken on accounts payable
    • Ensure that accounts receivable is recorded and promptly collected
    • Process payroll in a timely manner
    • Ensure that bank reconciliations are completed daily
    • Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
    • Maintain the chart of accounts
    • Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
    • Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
    • Execute month end close processes ensuring appropriate controls and formalized Balance Sheet reconciliations for all accounts.
  • REPORTING
    • Maintain cash flow and analyze processes in order to maximize cash flow availability as needed throughout the year
    • Maintain accounting for any period and accruals
    • Responsible for financial packages' accuracy and timeliness (NLT the 15th every month)
    • Develop and recommend adjustments to current year planning and impact of five-year plan
    • Calculate and issue financial and operating metrics
    • Manage the production of the annual budget and forecasts
    • Provide for a system of management cost reports
    • Provide financial analysis as needed, for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations
    • Analyze and audit jobs and report on financial health of project at 25%, 50%, 75% and 100% of completion.
    • Review/create and improve accounting processes and report progress to CFO
    • Preparation of reporting package for board meetings
    • Review benchmarking and ratio analysis and report on accuracy to the CFO
  • COMPLIANCE
    • Ensure Invoice compliance- lien releases, back-up, insurance, etc.
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for the annual audits for insurances
    • Monitor debt levels and compliance with debt covenants
    • Comply with local, state and federal government reporting requirements and tax filing – income, sales and excise
    • Promote fair and consistent application of company policies and procedures
    • Accountable to act with integrity, adhere to company expectations of performance and behavior, abide by work rules and demonstrate high standards of moral and ethical conduct at all times
    • Maintains confidentiality of all company information
    • Other duties as assigned
    • Review 941 Reconciliation to P&L
    • Risk mitigation including compliance, regulatory reporting, insurance, safeguard assets, etc.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the overall direction, supervision, coordination and evaluation of all accounting personnel
  • Carries out administrative responsibilities in accordance with Earthtone Construction policies and applicable laws
  • Assist Project Managers with project audits
  • Guide the accounting team and ensure team is setup for success
  • Look for ways to cut costs and improve profitability
  • Approve and review process documents

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance & Accounting (preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 8 - 10 years of accounting and finance experience required; Construction industry experience preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting, budgeting, and generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Premier, Procore and GC Pay experience desired

  • Computer literate and proficiency in Premier Accounting Systems, Adobe PDF Pro, MS Office: Word, Excel, Project and Outlook

  • 10-key by touch

  • Other training and/or certifications desired: OSHA,

  • Must have a valid Driver's License
