Position Summary:

The Director of Electrical & Low Voltage is responsible for leading and aligning two critical departments – Electrical & Low Voltage, with a primary focus on construction projects. This position oversees strategic planning, project execution, compliance, financial management, and team leadership across all electrical and low voltage operations. The Director provides unified oversight to drive cross‑functional collaboration, operational consistency, and strategic alignment. This includes building strong partnerships with existing departmental managers, fostering a cohesive leadership culture, and guiding both teams toward shared goals while respecting their unique functions. This role requires a forward‑thinking leader with deep industry knowledge and experience working within complex regulatory environments. The Director must be adept at navigating organizational changes, empowering team members, and delivering high‑quality, code‑compliant projects on time and within budget. This position also plays a key role in aligning departmental performance with broader company objectives, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth, and ensuring operational excellence across both disciplines.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Management

  • Lead the strategic integration of the Electrical and Low Voltage departments into a cohesive division, fostering alignment in process, culture, and performance expectations.
  • Navigate organizational change with transparency and empathy, ensuring strong communication and engagement with existing team leaders and staff through the transition.
  • Facilitate collaborative planning and cross‑functional initiatives that support ALL divisions of Strategic Industry.
  • Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the electrical and low‑voltage departments, including estimating, project management, and field operations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop project managers, superintendents, foremen, and support staff.
  • Align department goals with company objectives, budgets, and growth targets.
  • Oversee P&L, budgets, resource allocation, and forecasting for multiple concurrent projects.
  • Recruit, train, and mentor project managers, engineers, estimators, and field technicians.
  • Foster a high‑performance culture focused on accountability, quality, continuous improvement, and customer satisfaction.
  • Promote continuous improvement and professional development within the team.

Project Oversight

  • Supervise planning, execution, and close‑out of all electrical and low‑voltage scopes.
  • Ensure projects meet schedule, quality, and cost expectations.
  • Review and approve major RFIs, change orders, submittals, and coordination efforts.
  • Participate in preconstruction efforts, budgeting, and project strategy meetings.

Technical & Regulatory Expertise

  • Ensure compliance with NEC, NFPA, BICSI, TIE/EIA and local code requirements.
  • Oversee design‑build and design‑assist efforts for electrical and low‑voltage systems.
  • Ensure proper implementation of critical systems in healthcare and government settings.
  • Serve as a technical advisor to field personnel, project teams, and clients.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex system issues and provide technical guidance to teams.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets for division.
  • Monitor job costing, forecasting, and margin performance across active projects.
  • Support estimating teams in bid strategies and major proposal reviews.
  • Analyze financial reports and identify areas for operational efficiency and growth.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Champion a strong safety culture and ensure adherence to OSHA and NFPA 70E standards.
  • Oversee QA/QC procedures and enforce strict quality standards for electrical and life‑safety systems.
  • Ensure documentation and inspections meet AHJ, VA, and/or federal guidelines.
  • Lead compliance efforts for project‑specific security or clearance requirements.

Client & Business Development

  • Maintain strong relationships with key clients, GCs, and vendors.
  • Represent the company in interviews, proposals, and client‑facing strategy sessions.
  • Identify and pursue growth opportunities in healthcare, government, and low‑voltage markets.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (Master's preferred).
  • 10+ years of experience in electrical construction, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required security clearances.
  • Strong technical understanding of low‑voltage systems (fire alarm, data, security, AV).
  • Proven experience and success in managing healthcare and/or government projects.
  • Deep knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70/99, BICSI, and applicable codes/regulations.
  • Proficient with tools such as Procore, Bluebeam, Intellibid, P6/MS Project, and AutoCAD/BIM.
  • Ability to build strong partnerships with existing departmental leaders, empowering them to contribute meaningfully to divisional goals and operational growth.

  • Must pass a pre‑employment drug test and background check.
  • Must be a US Citizen.

Environmental Conditions

  • Work is primarily indoors in a standard office environment with minimal exposure to excessive noise, dust, fumes, vibrations or temperature changes (approximately 75% of the time).
  • The role also requires regular site visits to active project locations, including hospitals and secured government facilities, where there may be exposure to noise, heat, cold, and varying weather conditions (approximately 25% of the time).
  • Frequently operates in a fast‑paced environment with unscheduled interruptions requiring adjustments to priorities and tasks.
  • Occasional evenings or weekends work to meet deadlines and strategic objectives.
  • Occasional travel and mobility between different work locations for regional project oversight and client meetings.
