Position Summary

The Assistant Chief Engineer is responsible for maintaining the operation of building systems and ensuring the consistent quality of maintenance performed by the Engineering Team. Responsibilities include completing comprehensive maintenance on building systems and high‑quality repairs to keep the facility's aesthetics and functionality at a first‑class level. The role collaborates with the Leadership Team to foster the best Facilities Operation and assists in the development of the Engineering Team.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for redefining hospitality at Graton Resort & Casino while living, supporting, and promoting our values.
  • Perform responsibilities in accordance with all Company standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Assist with job quality control and ensure maintenance performed by the team is completed safely and to the standards of the department. Address any maintenance quality issues with the Engineers through hands‑on coaching and retraining as necessary. Escalate performance issues or policy violations that require corrective disciplinary action to Facilities Management upon identification for resolution.
  • Assist in the coordination and implementation of daily work and projects utilizing HOTSOS. Assign, monitor, prioritize and inspect work for smooth flow of assignments according to the needs of the department and property. Ensure projects and daily assignments are completed accurately, timely and in the most efficient manner. Make certain that Preventive Maintenance is performed in accordance with manufacturers' specifications and escalate issues to Management where delays or service failures may occur for proper resolution.
  • Maintain a safe Hotel and Casino environment for internal and external guests by ensuring adherence to safety standards. Aid in the development of hands‑on training programs and help facilitate training programs for the engineers. Ensure the engineers are suitably trained before performing preventive maintenance and repairs. Make certain that the use of equipment and tools are safely used by the engineers and complies with Cal‑OSHA and ANSI regulations. Ensure all engineers are following: Hot Work Permitting, Lock Out/Tag Out, confined space and other safety standard operating procedures. Conduct routine safety inspections of the property and work performed.
  • Supervise vendors and contractors to complete assigned work for projects and services ensuring work meets or exceeds the expectations of the Company. Coordinate projects with Facilities Management utilizing a combination of team member and contractor efforts to bring projects to culmination.
  • Oversee and follow proper procedures for ordering engineering parts for various jobs and projects to ensure parts are on hand when needed. Encourage and maintain clear and open communication upward and downward.
  • Ensure all engineering spaces are kept clean and to standard required by various codes.
  • Make necessary authorized repairs with and without supervision to maintain the property's operations and performs preventive maintenance in accordance to manufacturer specifications. Make informed decisions and communicate to Facilities Management regarding repair/replacement of major fixed asset equipment.
  • Systematically prepare to assume job assignments with necessary equipment, parts and materials are available to ensure tasks can be accomplished efficiently and safely.
  • Continually assess the preventive maintenance schedule to ensure that equipment longevity, avoidance of repairs and downtime, ease of operation, and efficiency are being maximized pursuant to manufacturing recommendations.

Qualifications

  • Maintain all licensing and certificates required to complete and maintain building systems.
  • Be familiar with OSHA safety codes regarding chemicals and electrical equipment.
