Position Description
The current vacancy is for an experienced Tax Manager. In this capacity, the individual will be tasked with supervising a diverse array of accounting and tax engagements. The role entails the management of complex projects and the review of moderately complex work prepared by others, with the provision of constructive feedback. Additionally, the Tax Manager will supervise, train, and mentor staff members, including less experienced Senior Accountants. This position necessitates the development and maintenance of meaningful relationships with the Firm's clients, as well as active participation in planning activities. The Tax Manager will play a crucial role in executing the Firm's client retention strategies, ensuring high levels of client satisfaction, and identifying opportunities for service expansion.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Education, Licensing, and Experience
Candidates must possess a Bachelor's Degree with a major or concentration in accounting, tax, or a related field. A valid and current CPA license is required; an EA license is not an acceptable alternative. Candidates should have a minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience within a public accounting firm. Additionally, candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer, as we are not currently considering candidates requiring Visa sponsorship. Furthermore, applicants will be subject to a criminal background check upon receipt of a conditional offer. Consideration of qualified candidates with arrest and conviction records will adhere to the San Francisco Fair Chance Ordinance and the California Fair Chance Act.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Candidates should possess strong general accounting knowledge with substantial experience in trial balance work and complex journal entries. Experience in preparing a diverse range of complex tax returns and reviewing the work of others is essential, along with a background in tax engagements for both individuals and closely-held businesses. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in tax law and complex tax research using available resources and platforms. A thorough understanding of GAAP, generally accepted auditing standards, and common audit procedures and techniques is necessary. Proficiency in the Firm's standard software, including Lacerte and/or ProSystems FX, as well as Excel, is required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, alongside the ability to manage time, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines. Candidates must demonstrate sound judgment, maintain confidentiality when dealing with sensitive information, work effectively both independently and collaboratively, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
