Job Summary:
The Underwriter is responsible for evaluating and underwriting risks within established guidelines, supporting profitable growth across products. This role blends technical underwriting skill with relationship management, helping to ensure disciplined execution, accuracy, and collaboration across the underwriting team.
Working closely with other members of the Underwriting Team, the Underwriter contributes to portfolio performance, develops broker relationships, and builds a strong foundation for future underwriting leadership.
Responsibilities:
Underwriting & Risk Evaluation
- Review, analyze, and underwrite new and renewal submissions within delegated authority and company guidelines.
- Assess exposures, pricing adequacy, and program fit to ensure sound risk selection.
- Prepare clear and accurate underwriting documentation, referrals, and quotes.
- Collaborate with senior team members on complex accounts, referrals, and special situations.
- Monitor assigned book of business, identifying trends and assisting in corrective actions when needed.
- Develop and maintain positive relationships with brokers and agents to support growth and retention goals.
- Communicate underwriting appetite, requirements, and decisions with clarity and professionalism.
- Participate in broker calls, meetings, and presentations to represent core programs and value proposition.
- Support product and program refinement by providing feedback on underwriting tools, workflows, and market conditions.
- Partner with claims, operations, and data teams to ensure accurate policy processing and reporting.
- Contribute to initiatives that improve process efficiency, data integrity, and service quality.
- Engage in ongoing learning through training, mentorship, and exposure to broader underwriting strategies.
- Collaborate across teams to share knowledge, strengthen best practices, and drive collective success.
- Demonstrate initiative in professional development and pursuit of deeper technical and industry expertise.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience required.
- 4-7 years of commercial underwriting experience within an MGA, carrier, or program administrator.
- Working knowledge of specific line of business - crisis management, product recall and contamination.
- Solid understanding of underwriting principles, pricing, and policy structure.
- Excellent communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.
- Analytical and detail-oriented, with proficiency in underwriting systems, rating tools, and Microsoft Office suite
- Eager to learn and grow; receptive to feedback and coaching.
- High integrity, accountability, and ownership of work product.
- Collaborative and communicative, thrives in a team setting.
- Balances precision with efficiency; demonstrates sound judgment
