Job Summary

The Business Development Manager (BDM) will have responsibility for developing new customer business within their assigned sales territory. The incumbent educates and develops the prospects' value perception of Ryder's services by using the Ryder Sales Process. This includes developing sales plans, analyzing profitability of prospects, and understanding competitive influences and risks with each account. To be clear, this is a straight hunter role and we need someone hungry to hunt.

The position requires ground travel and includes salary, company cell phone, mileage reimbursement, and an excellent monthly commission payout potential. Some travel may apply for training.

Essential Functions

  • Develop pre-sales strategy for target accounts; build a sales activity pipeline to meet and exceed quota revenues; respond proactively to leads; represent the full spectrum of Ryder services; collaborate with ARs and CDMs to transition accounts and increase opportunities; work with National Sales to generate opportunities within the assigned territory; ensure new customer orientation is completed; work with DSDs to develop DCC opportunities.
  • Identify prospect needs/requirements and value components through quality needs assessment and value-based proposals; develop account selling strategies to improve effectiveness; familiarize GMs & CDMs with ongoing sales and potential impact on their areas; contribute to effective transition of accounts sold; perform administrative functions to support accounts.
  • Report sales activity to management; adhere to sales protocol and SOM compliance; build relationships with CBUs; leverage resources to expand opportunities (e.g., MDS, Safety, Finance); develop account profile information on all solicitations.
  • Training and improvement of sales skills, industry knowledge, and personal growth needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business and/or Finance and Accounting or equivalent field
  • 5+ years of demonstrated sales excellence with quota achievement
  • Good understanding of Ryder's product offerings and ability to represent the full spectrum of Ryder's services
  • Ability to interpret financial data

Compensation and Benefits

The compensation offered may be influenced by experience, education, location, and market data. The position may be eligible for an annual bonus, commission, and/or long-term incentive plan. Pay ranges: Minimum $65,000; Maximum $70,000. Benefits include comprehensive health and welfare plans, paid time off, and a 401(k) plan.
