Job Description
The Forest Stewardship Education Initiative educates forest landowners to better understand, manage and protect their forests (pre and post-fire) by developing a forest management plan, engage with natural resource professionals, and take advantage of cost-share opportunities that can help them meet their management goals. The Forest Stewardship Community Education Specialist uses professional, adult community educational program concepts to deliver standardized educational workshops to private, non-industrial, private forest landowners throughout California and applies established procedures and programs to address landowner and program participant needs.
Program delivery methods include a mix of online and in-person formats. Workshops focus on helping landowners become better forest stewards by helping them learn about forestry, forest management and post-fire forest resilience. The Forest Stewardship Community Education Specialist utilizes standard practices in analyzing program content and delivery needs and determining effectiveness of current programs. They will also assist in writing materials and helping to disseminate information through multiple platforms and help maintain and improve various websites. The Forest Stewardship Community Education Specialist collaborates with members of the UC Forestry Workgroup.
The CES will need to illustrate a strong ability to work independently and connect their work to program goals.
This position is a contract appointment that is 100% fixed.
The home department for this position is ANR Fire Network. While this position normally is based in Santa Rosa, CA, this position is eligible for hybrid flexible work arrangements for applicants living in the State of California at this time. Please note that hybrid flexible work arrangements are subject to change by the University.
Pay Scale: $53,800.00/year to $72,400.00/year

Plans and develops new programs and curriculum, and organizes, conducts and adjusts existing courses and curriculum in a continuing education environment, including online learning platforms, programmatic outreach, summarizing course sessions through diligent note taking, and interacting with program participants.
Actively participates in long-range strategic planning for community educational programs.
Participates and assists in the development and implementation of strategic communications plan to outreach to target audiences.
Collaborates with program staff to recruit program participants to meet established enrollment and outcome requirements.
Utilizes evaluation tools for courses, instructors, and programs to measure knowledge gain and success of outreach and education materials.
Facilitates and supports program events for themselves and others.
Evaluates and adjusts course curriculum through student / participant evaluations and level of interest shown.

Requirements:
Associate degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
Continuing education in related field required
Knowledge or experience in forestry, post-fire or natural resources program content and objectives.
Knowledge of how to deliver adult educational programs in a variety of settings, including online delivery.
Ability to work independently and demonstrate the organizational skills to monitor programs against established deadlines, and review and analyze results.
Strong reading, verbal, written and interpersonal communications and presentation skills to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to maintain positive interactions with others and work cooperatively.
Skill in using business software systems and social media platforms in the completion of work assignments; i.e., Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Zoom, Facebook.
Experience with web design, video development, and/or audio/visual design tools.
Experience in implementing programs and developing educational materials.
Special Conditions of Employment:
Must possess valid California Driver's License to drive a County or University vehicle. Ability and means to travel on a flexible schedule as needed, proof of liability damage insurance on vehicle used is required. Reimbursement of job-related travel will be reimbursed according to University policies.
