BAVC Media (Bay Area Video Coalition) is a leading nonprofit organization working at the intersection of media arts, technology, and education. Founded in 1976, we have spent nearly 50 years empowering media makers to develop and share diverse stories to create social change. Our work centers on access, participation and equity – pillars that frame all of our programs, from youth and adult training, to workforce development, artist development, preservation, community media, field building and research activities. BAVC Media is headquartered in San Francisco at the Ninth Street Independent Film Center.
JOB SUMMARY
We seek an experienced part-time Director of Finance & Operations to play a critical business partner role at our organization. This role will help drive sustainable growth by overseeing finance and operations. The ideal candidate has strong business acumen, finance and accounting skills, experience in leading compliance with local, state and federal regulations and grant requirements, and an entrepreneurial spirit. This role reports directly to the Executive Director, and will lead our Finance and Operations department that includes HR, IT and Office Management. They will spend more time on the finance and accounting side of the business, overseeing and implementing finance work, while delegating operations tasks to the appropriate Operations team member.
This person will support an organization that honors and embraces diversity, equity, and inclusion, with an intersectional lens, including but not limited to: BIPOC, LGBTQi+, low-income, female-indentifying, nonbinary, and gender fluid young people. This is a part-time position, working an average of 20-25 hours per week in BAVC's San Francisco office. From time-to-time, this role may need to attend BAVC-related events outside of business hours.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Management
- Lead financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, and reporting to ensure timely and accurate execution.
- Build financial models for new or existing programs to access and forecast revenue opportunities
- Lead financial and institutional data management and reporting, including the generation of a monthly dashboard to track KPIs and Board reports.
- Regularly review and analyze financial data, identifying and sharing challenges, opportunities, and risks with the Executive Director and department heads
- Oversee the 3rd party bookkeeping team on day-to-day bill payment, invoicing, and other accounting/financial processes
- Continuously improve all billing and collections activities to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance.
- Strategic Finance Partner to the Executive Director, providing advice on expenditures and investment opportunities
- Implement systems to track and analyze program costs and revenue, in collaboration with other department heads.
- Support the grant development process by assisting with budget creation and reviews.
- Oversee management of the annual financial audit
- Ensure that fiscal systems are in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws, and grant requirements
- Supervise and support a small Operations teams of full-time and part-time employees
Operations
- Oversee Human Resources needs, including employee engagement, payroll, benefits, policy creation and administration, and employer compliance
- Manage the BAVC office space at 9th Street, ensuring a productive working space that is accessible, industry-standard and welcoming to our employees and community members.
- Ensure that operating activities are in compliance with local, state and federal regulations and laws, and grant requirements
- Ensure BAVC Media's IT needs are met effectively and within budget
- Leverage automation and technology to enhance efficiency and accuracy of internal operations processes and systems
- Grant reporting
- Perform other related duties as needed
SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS
- Extensive training in finance and business administration
- Success leading finance and accounting for a small to medium-sized organization
- Strong financial acumen and experience with nonprofit business models
- Knowledge about typical government grants and contracts requirements and structures
- Experience tracking and analyzing program costs and revenue across multiple locations
- Expertise in financial systems (ERP, billing, reporting tools) and data analytics.
- Experience leading and managing complex projects
- Experience supervising others, both with and without direct authority.
- Excellent written and oral communication, organization, and time management
- Experience collaborating with a diverse team of peers
- Ability to learn new applications and software quickly
- Experience facilitating staff meetings is a plus
