Redwood Oil Co. was founded by Peter Van Alyea with his purchase of a single gas station in the early 1970s in Marin County. Since then, we have grown to 24 retail gas and convenience store locations, 16 of which are home to our Aztec Grills where fresh food items are prepared daily by our grill staff. Redwood Market and Aztec Grill are brands of Redwood Oil, which you will see on the face of our stores and on the labels of our in-house prepared food products.

The Junior Category Manager & Analyst oversees the development of the categories and related marketing programs to increase sales and gross profit of select categories within the c-store and support the Brand Director in other categories. This involves planning marketing strategies, selecting suppliers, evaluating new products and displays, analyzing programs and data, managing promotions and distribution opportunities, negotiating contracts, and utilizing established Category Management processes. Supports Operations Team with marketing execution and ensures a cohesive and professional brand identity across our stores.

Category Management

  • Develop profitable growth via category management tools on special projects with an eye to increasing productivity.
  • Provide insights by leading dialogue on category growth, margin opportunities, and SKU optimization.
  • Create and deliver regular reviews, plans, and strategies with retail partners.
  • Manage center-of-store assortment planning.

Analysis/reporting

  • Mine consumer/shopper data to develop insights and identify opportunities.
  • Perform post-program results analysis.
  • Provide analytical support with insights.
  • Manage ERP, Pricebook, and third-party tech platforms.
  • Administer vendor rebate programs.

Inventory Management

  • Manage physical inventory for QSR and C-store.
  • Identify inventory discrepancies and work with vendors to optimize positions.
  • Create and administer forecasting to optimize raw material and CPG ordering.
  • Support Brand Director in costing, pricing, and menu optimization for proprietary food service AG.

Retail and Sales Operations

  • Devise and execute store operations related to product and marketing.
  • Communicate product and marketing updates to stores.
  • Manage marketing calendar and assets.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree and/or equivalent experience in retail.

Job Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office, including advanced Excel skills (Vlookup, Pivot tables) and data storytelling.
  • Organizational and planning skills, multitasking, and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and human relation skills.
  • Negotiating skills.

The physical demands include mostly seated work, with periodic visits to locations, including occasional out-of-town travel that may be overnight. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals to perform these functions.
