POSITION TITLE: Manager of Plant Operations
REPORTS TO: Director of Plant Operations
Description Of Position
To directly assist the Director of Plant Operations in managing the Plant Operations Department by ensuring the maintenance of a safe, clean healthy physical environment for patients, staff, and guests of the organization. The Manager of Plant Operations maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposures).
Key Responsibilities
Manage Plant Operations staff which consists of Maintenance Technicians and E.V.S. (Housekeeping) staff according to existing policies, procedures, budgetary constraints and safe practices including selecting, training, and scheduling the activities of all department staff performing a variety of maintenance and housekeeping activities.
Schedules work based upon established priorities, budgetary constraints and agreed-upon plan of preventative maintenance.
Carries out personnel management activities associated with direct staff supervision, including screening and selection, orientation training and development, performance management, and employee relations functions.
Ensures all department staff are trained to perform their jobs to the best of their ability through competency review and training/retraining.
Understands/maintains regulatory code compliance required by regulatory agencies such as the Joint Commission, Health Care Access & Information, California Department of Public Health, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, to ensure the hospital is survey ready as it relates to Plant Operations. Also, interacting with regulatory compliance staff/surveyors as needed.
Conduct inspections including but not limited to Environment of Care, Risk Assessment, and other inspections upon request of the DPO to ensure that standards of cleanliness and safety are being maintained according to established policy and regulatory requirements.
Conducting drills and exercises such as fire drills and disaster exercises (i.e. wildfire, earthquake, etc.) with staff and patient participation along with training department staff how to conduct the fire drills. Initiating and participating in a Hospital Incident Command System/center when required.
Ordering and maintaining department inventory of supplies for both maintenance and E.V.S. (Housekeeping) to maintain the facility effectively.
Troubleshoot and repair facility equipment if possible.
Contacts and coordinates maintenance repairs, selected services with vendors for service requests as well as contacting equipment and parts vendors to place orders for equipment and parts when needed in a timely and efficient manner.
Create, review and update hospital policies and procedures that the Plant Operations Department oversees.
Establishing accounts with new vendors when needed and maintaining existing accounts with existing vendors.
Establishes and maintains a quality assurance program whereby appropriate evaluation of products and service is easily discernable.
Works with the Plant Operations Director on department fiscal management.
Performs related duties as requested.
Be able to fill in for the Director of Plant Operations and effectively run the department in their absence.
Upholds the organization's ethics and customer service standards.
Being available remotely in case a facility emergency arises that requires a response whether it be going onsite or contracting Plant Ops. staff, vendors or emergency responders to address the issue.
Working as a project manager on various facilities improvement or code compliance projects in differing sizes in scale.
Setting up computer & phone equipment including but not limited to desktop/laptop computers, desk phones, and tablets.
Working with our offsite I.T. Department and troubleshooting I.T. equipment such as data ports, switches, patch panels, servers, wireless access points, and cell boosters.
Being able to read and decipher blue prints.
Identifying areas of the department that need improvement creating a plan, and implementing the plan.
Processing department staff's timecards.
Checking the security cameras on a daily basis to ensure they are working correctly and pointed in the optimal direction. Ensuring offline cameras are brought back online when needed or replaced if needed. Investigate suspicious activity or reports of suspicious activity (I.E. someone suspected of trespassing on hospital grounds).

Helping to cover and/or train our sister hospital's Plant Ops. Staff as needed.
Requirements
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Knowledge And Experience
High School or equivalent required, plus technical training and experience.
Required license - Driver's License.
Minimum 2 years' experience in a facilities maintenance management position (preferably in healthcare).
Experience with policy creation, review, and revision highly desired.
Regulatory code compliance experience highly desired.
Current CPR certification recommended.
Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention program as approved by the CNO.
Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions
Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
