What You'll Be Doing In This Role...
Under the general direction of the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive support in the day-to-day operations of human resources, and will assist the HR department with complex and specialized administrative tasks including recruiting, interviewing, hiring, benefits administration, enforcing company policies and practices, managing records, employee relations, and employee engagement. The HR Generalist works closely with other departments to provide customer-focused, effective HR service to the organization for the achievement of the organization's goals and objectives.
Recruitment and Hiring
Manages the recruitment, hiring, and termination processes, ensuring procedures are followed and approvals are tracked timely.
Manages the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions through HRIS; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings; maintains accurate records of active job openings and received applications; manages internal and external job postings.
Prepares and posts job advertisements, screens applications, arranges interviews, participates in the selection process.
Conducts interviews, reference checks and employment verification, and assists with new-employee background checks as applicable.
Conducts and coordinates new hire orientation, onboarding programs, employee engagement and employee recognition programs.
Prepares paperwork/online documentation needed to create a new employee profile and to place a new employee on payroll.
Benefits
Administers health and welfare plans, including enrollments, changes and terminations.
Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate record-keeping and proper deductions.
Assists employees with the enrollment process and answers questions.
Provides reporting to the Director of HR, Director of Finance, and accounting team.
Reconciles benefits statements.
Compliance
Reviews, tracks, and documents compliance with mandatory and non-mandatory training, continuing education, and work assessments; this may include safety training, anti-harassment training, professional licensure, and aptitude exams and certifications.
Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, and recommended best practices.
Completes Forms I-9, verifies I-9 documentation and maintains I-9 files.
Remain current with HR best practices and changes to federal, state, and local employment laws.
Conducts or assists with record audits and mandatory reports, which may include I-9 audits, EEO-1 filings, payroll audits, and other compliance reviews.
Personnel
Build positive relationships with managers and staff and serve as a resource and support regarding HR questions and needsAttends and participates in employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations.
Exercises individual judgment and answers frequently asked questions from applicants and employees relative to standard policies, benefits, hiring processes, etc.; refers more complex questions to the Director of HR or management.
Ensure professional, respectful, and smooth communication with employees and timely resolution to their queries.
Administration
Maintains the integrity and confidentiality of HR files and records, and leverages internal HR systems for maintaining, auditing, and updating employee information and staffing changes, ensuring completion and accuracy of details such as employee contact information, job classification, pay rates, organizational structure, and other key details.
Proactively tracks relevant data and information to identify trends and opportunities for continuous improvement.
Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law.
Create thorough job descriptions for each role in the organization and updates as required.
Manages the Incidents and Workers' Compensation process and support to managers and staff throughout the corrective action and claims process.
Assist with the performance assessment and talent management process.
Assists with employee relations discussions, investigations, meetings, and administration.
May assist with payroll functions including processing, answering employee questions, fixing processing errors, and distributing checks.
May assist with leaves of absence processing and communication.
Assists with planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, organization-wide meetings, employee recognition events, holiday parties, and retirement celebrations.
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor and based upon business needs.
In An Ideal World, You Have
Bachelor's degree in HR or a related field and/or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 3 years' related experience required.
SHRM-CP credential preferred
Ability to speak Spanish preferred
Ability to identify opportunities and develop thoughtful improvements
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present information
Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
Working understanding of human resource principles, practices and procedures.
Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
Tech-savvy with proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite (docs, sheets, slides), Slack, and similar programs.
Proficient with or the ability to quickly learn payroll management, human resource information system (HRIS), and similar computer applications.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays.
Environmental And/Or Physical Requirements
Ability to perform the essential job functions consistently, safely and successfully with federal, state, and local standards
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Ability to reach, bend, stoop, climb, push/pull, and frequently lift up to 35 pounds and occasionally lift/move 40 pounds
Ability to work in ever-changing work settings
