This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with a hybrid work model in Petaluma, CA.

The role involves detailed design, documentation, and testing of electronic and mechanical components, equipment, and subsystems.

Responsibilities

  1. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks.
  2. Support electronic engineering activities on R&D projects.
  3. Coordinate manufacturing, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, and testing to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and design requirements.
  4. Inspect installations and observe operations to ensure conformance to design and safety standards, working with avionics, embedded systems, and RF links.
  5. Support flight test operations as needed and troubleshoot complex systems. Document designs with engineering drawings and descriptions.
  6. Perform design and analysis tasks, develop budgets, and estimate costs.
  7. Demonstrate familiarity with HDL programming, C/C++, PCB design, UAV subsystems, and related software.
  8. Assess root causes of issues and contribute to product sustainability and reliability.
  9. Research and propose re-engineering solutions to problems.
  10. Apply engineering principles within the technical discipline to solve complex issues.
  11. Make decisions impacting project costs and schedules, and execute complex design decisions.
  12. Provide technical supervision and lead small teams or projects to meet goals.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills & Experience)

  1. Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field, or equivalent experience.
  2. 8-12 years of relevant experience.
  3. Proficiency with office and specialized engineering software, including Altium Designer for PCB design.
  4. Experience in RF, embedded control, FPGA, power electronics, motors, and battery technologies.
  5. Ability to troubleshoot complex systems and familiarity with industry protocols (LVDS, I2C, HDMI, UART, SPI, CAN, USB).
  6. Knowledge of fundamental engineering principles, mathematics, physics, and materials.
  7. Willingness to travel up to 30% for flight test support and a clean driving record.

Other Qualifications & Desired Competencies

  1. An advanced degree is preferred.
  2. Experience with flight tests or R/C systems is a plus.
  3. Familiarity with small UAV subsystems and related software is advantageous.
  4. Ability to work independently, adhere to policies, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  5. Ability to work in an office setting.
