The Riverside County Information Technology is seeking a highly motivated and team-oriented Network Operations Engineer to join their team in Riverside. Please note that 'Network Operations Engineer' is a working title for the classification of IT Communications Analyst III.

About the Position

The Network Operations Engineer plays a critical role in ensuring the availability, performance, and reliability of the organization's enterprise and public safety network infrastructure. Responsibilities include monitoring network performance, resource availability, capacity planning, troubleshooting, and resolving network issues across layers 1 to 3. The role involves configuring, installing, and maintaining hardware such as Cisco routers and switches, Aruba wireless access points, Ciena routers, CradlePoint cellular routers, and Palo Alto firewalls, using tools like NetBrain, SolarWinds, Infoblox, Panorama, Aruba Central, and ClearPass.

The ideal candidate demonstrates strong communication skills, a customer service mindset, and a deep understanding of system availability for enterprise and public safety networks. Certifications such as Cisco CCNA, CCNP, Network+, ACA-S, ACP-S, CWNA, ACCX, CRS-A, and CRS-P are preferred.

This position involves rotating on-call shifts and follows a 9/80 work schedule. During training, onsite presence at least once per week is required, with potential for remote work afterward.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of 30 semester or 45 quarter units from an accredited college or university, preferably in computer science or related fields. Additional IT experience may substitute for education.
  • Four years of successful journey-level experience with network systems, including at least one year in a lead or advanced role.

Core Competencies and Technical Qualifications

Proficiency in implementing, maintaining, and troubleshooting TCP/IP networks, WANs, wireless, data center, DMZ, DNS, and related technologies. Knowledge of protocols such as Ethernet, VLANs, Spanning Tree, IPsec, OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, DHCP, DNS. Familiarity with QoS, route filtering, ACLs, NetFlow, and cloud networking (AWS, Azure, Oracle Cloud) is a plus.

Additional Requirements

A successful Security Clearance from the Sheriffs' Department is required.
