Join an innovative pre-series A open-source startup seeking talented Staff Engineers. This position is currently fully remote, with plans to establish an office within the Bay Area in the next 6-12 months. Candidates should be in the San Francisco area and open to a hybrid work model of 2-3 days per week in the office. We prioritize applicants with experience in open-source projects or developer tools, a strong background in TypeScript, and a successful track record in startups.

Position Overview

We are looking for an exceptional infrastructure engineer who is deeply passionate about developer experience and open-source technology. This role is perfect for someone who excels in the TypeScript ecosystem, has extensive experience in React at the infrastructure level, focusing not just on application development but on creating state management solutions, custom hooks, and optimizing performance.

In this role, you will be instrumental in architecting developer tools, SDKs, and frameworks that empower engineers globally. If you are enthusiastic about functional programming, automation, and scalable architecture, and have a proven history of building developer-friendly infrastructure, we want to connect with you.

Key Responsibilities

• Architect and enhance open-source and enterprise platforms, ensuring seamless integrations for developers.
• Lead the development of developer tooling, SDKs, and infrastructure solutions that enhance performance and usability.
• Promote best practices in functional programming, TypeScript, and Node.js, emphasizing clean architecture and maintainability.
• Collaborate with talented engineers and open-source contributors to build cutting-edge solutions in AI and developer tooling.
• Own complex technical challenges from design to deployment in a fast-paced, innovation-driven setting.
• Engage with the developer community, contribute to open-source projects, and ensure excellent API design and developer experience (DX).

Qualifications

• Deep expertise in TypeScript (5+ years)
• Advanced React knowledge focusing on state management, infrastructure, and performance optimization
• Solid backend experience with Node.js and related frameworks
• Understanding of developer tooling and infrastructure
• Experience in SDK development or creating developer tools
• High autonomy and ability to thrive in ambiguous situations without micromanagement
• Experience in open-source environments with contributions or leadership in relevant projects

Bonus Points For

• Strong grasp of functional programming principles; knowledge in Rust or Haskell is a plus
• Experience optimizing nested asynchronous operations and resolving performance bottlenecks
• Background in Large Language Models (LLMs) or AI-driven developer tooling
• Python experience for backend services or AI/ML integrations
• Cloud-native or Kubernetes background
