The University

Sonoma State University's beautiful 274-acre campus is located in Sonoma County wine country, an hour north of San Francisco. The Department

The Department of Geography, Environment, and Planning provides a rigorous education leading alternatively to a B.A. or to a B.S. degree. The Department emphasizes high-quality undergraduate teaching, advising, scholarship, and service to the community and the university. Duties of the Position

The Geography, Environment, and Planning Department at Sonoma State University seeks qualified applicants to teach a wide variety of courses. We have areas of concentration focused upon:

  • society, environment, and development
  • environmental management and policy
  • environmental systems
  • energy and sustainability
  • urban studies and planning
  • geospatial science

Professional Qualifications

To be recommended for appointment, the candidate must have:

Upper division courses: PhD (or near completion) or terminal degree as appropriate; Lower division: Masters; Lab sections: Bachelors with appropriate experience. We have no minimum required teaching experience. However, teaching experience and evidence of classroom success are important criteria for consideration.

Rank and Salary

Full-time is a 15-unit workload per semester. Actual salary is dependent upon the number of units assigned, educational preparation, and availability of funds subject to any CSU system faculty contract salary increases.

  • Salary commensurate with degree level and experience.
  • Anticipated Hiring Salary Range: $4,530 - $6,056 per full-time month.
  • Temporary Faculty appointments are made on a semester-by-semester basis.
  • Relocation expenses will not be provided for temporary faculty appointments.
  • Expenses incurred to attend an interview for temporary faculty positions are not reimbursed by the University.
