Job Summary

PetSmart's Store Leader oversees safety, pet parent experience, operations, financial outcomes, and HR functions within the store. This role provides leadership by driving company culture and strategies, achieving results, championing pet parent service, and upholding PetSmart's vision and values.

Essential Responsibilities

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

People Leadership:
  • Recruitment, interviewing, hiring, coaching, and termination decisions.
  • Foster an open-door culture; engage with associates and leverage feedback tools.
  • Create and manage staff schedules.
  • Support associate development through reviews, recognition, training, onboarding, mentoring, and succession planning.
  • Delegate tasks effectively, empower team members, and encourage ownership.
  • Communicate store priorities and respond to environment changes.
  • Handle associate complaints and recognize engagement efforts.
  • Ensure timely delivery of performance reviews.
Overall Store Experience:
  • Lead the associate and pet parent experience, ensuring pet safety and health.
  • Manage pet parent interactions and address concerns.
  • Create a positive store environment and seek process improvements.
  • Collaborate on store events and community partnerships.
  • Maintain store standards and ensure policy compliance.
  • Conduct regular store walk-throughs for safety and policy adherence.
  • Prioritize safety for staff, pets, and customers.
  • Manage inventory levels and communicate business objectives.
  • Review security footage and respond to safety issues.
  • Handle emergencies involving sick or injured pets.
  • Participate in opening and closing store procedures.
Business Management:
  • Implement corporate strategies and meet profitability goals.
  • Analyze reports, identify issues, and develop improvement plans.
  • Drive sales growth, recognize successes, and manage P&L expectations.
  • Control expenses and leverage resources for store operations.
  • Create staff schedules, process payroll, and manage labor budgets.
  • Complete required reporting and store errands.
Qualifications:
  • 4-6 years retail leadership or customer-focused experience.
  • Full-time availability, flexible schedule including evenings, weekends, holidays.
  • Proficiency in computer applications.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to perform under pressure and stay organized.
Supervisory Responsibility:
  • Oversee Experience Leader, Process Leader, and up to six lead associates, 10-70 non-leader associates.
Physical Demands and Environment:
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders, handle objects, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, and see clearly.
  • Lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly; team lift over 100 pounds occasionally.
  • Work involves exposure to moving parts, pet hair, moderate noise, and live animals.
