Base pay range

The County of San Mateo Sheriff's Office is seeking highly tactful candidates with exceptional attention to detail to join their team as a Sheriff's Property Officer. The position involves accepting and releasing evidence, maintaining accurate records, inventory control, and working with law enforcement databases. The vacancy is at the Evidence & Property Bureau in Redwood City, with potential future openings at the Forensic Laboratory in San Mateo.

Level and Compensation

The position is filled at either Sheriff's Property Officer I ($32.22 - $40.27/hr) or II ($38.60 - $48.25/hr) depending on qualifications.

Responsibilities include:

  • Managing evidence and property, ensuring chain of custody
  • Maintaining files and records
  • Managing video evidence and conducting inventories
  • Releasing property legally and accurately
  • Transporting and shipping evidence
  • Testifying in court
  • Maintaining inventory of assets
  • Using law enforcement information systems
  • Taking fingerprints and photographs
  • Participating in training and staying updated on laws

Qualifications

One year of relevant storekeeping or clerical experience for Officer I; two years law enforcement property experience for Officer II. Knowledge of record keeping, laws, and law enforcement procedures is required. Ability to explain policies, maintain records, operate computers, and handle firearms is essential.

Additional requirements

Background check, medical exam, and valid California driver's license are mandatory.
