Marina Attendants
Marina Attendants work independently, performing a variety of construction, semi-skilled maintenance, and repair work, including janitorial tasks for the bathrooms, shower facilities, offices, and the laundromat at the marina. These positions enforce marina rules, regulations, and ordinances, and perform security rounds and dock checks. You will also:
- Operating an ice plant
- Collecting marina fees, handle cash, and retail sales
- Dispensing fuel, oil, and ice to boats
- Composing minor incident reports
- Performing janitorial tasks for bathrooms, shower facilities, the laundromat, and the marina office
The ideal candidates will possess many of the following:
- Six months of experience working in a marina, handling small boats, and practicing safe boating
- Two or more years experience working in semi-skilled building construction, electrical, equipment maintenance, painting, and/or plumbing
- The ability to enforce rules and build positive relationships with the community
- Basic to Intermediate Microsoft Office skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Positivity, adaptability, and the ability to self-motivate
About the Marina Spud Point Marina is on Bodega Harbor in Bodega Bay. The harbor is the hub of commercial and sportfishing in Sonoma County. Bodega Bay features restaurants, galleries, and shops and is surrounded by parks offering camping, hiking, fishing and other outdoor recreation opportunities. Bodega Bay also makes a great base for touring the North Coast and Wine Country. Sailing, whale watching, sportfishing and other charter trips are great ways to enjoy Bodega Bay and to get out on the ocean. Sonoma County Regional Parks operates the located across the harbor from Spud Point Marina. The is the only place in Bodega Bay where privately chartered boats may dock for passenger loading and unloading.
About Regional Parks Sonoma County Regional Parks includes 60 parks and beaches from Petaluma to Gualala and Sonoma to Bodega Bay. Many offer wild landscapes, and miles of trails. Others feature sports fields, playgrounds and campgrounds. Regional Parks also manages the county's largest ocean marina and largest extracurricular environmental education center.
EXTRA-HELP EMPLOYMENT Extra-help employees relieve or augment permanent staff. Temporary, extra-help employees are not in the classified civil service and do not have property rights to permanently allocated positions. In addition, they do not receive most employee benefits such as long-term disability insurance coverage; accrual of vacation; participation in the County retirement program; or eligibility to take promotional examinations. Temporary, extra-help employees are limited in their employment to a maximum of one calendar year. These employees must be off of work for three months before they can be re-employed on an extra help basis. Extra-help employees who meet the eligibility requirements may qualify for a County contribution toward medical coverage.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill up to six temporary, extra-help positions in the Regional Parks Department. This employment list may also be used to fill future extra-help positions as they occur during the active status of this list.

Normally, two years of experience in semi-skilled building construction, repair, maintenance, and groundskeeping work, some of which must have been in a Marina environment.
Education: Any combination of education and training that will provide one with the knowledge and abilities.
Desirable Qualification: At least six months of paid experience working at a marina of similar size and operation.
License: Possession of a valid driver's license at the appropriate level including necessary special endorsements, as required by the State of California to perform the essential job functions of the position.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Working knowledge: of basic construction materials, safety practices, and tools commonly used in building construction, repair, maintenance and groundskeeping work; semi-skilled carpentry, masonry and plumbing and electricity; planting, cultivation, pruning, spraying and materials used in controlling weeds, insects and parasites; preventive maintenance tasks that need to be performed on marina vehicles, equipment and facilities.
Knowledge of: basic weather instruments and how they are used; the leadership techniques necessary to lead a work crew.
Ability to: perform a variety of light and heavy semi-skilled manual marina construction, repair, and maintenance tasks for extended periods of time; perform groundskeeping work that includes but is not necessarily limited to: propagation, planting, cultivation, pruning, trimming, spraying, and fertilization of lawns, plants, shrubs and trees; read and record information from weather instruments and post it for public review; operate and make adjustments to a variety of power tools and light equipment; demonstrate physical strength, endurance, and mechanical aptitude that relates to the tasks to be performed; apply the Spud Point Marina Ordinance and Marina rules and regulations in a firm and courteous manner; comply with and enforce common safety practices and procedures and to take corrective action that eliminates safety hazards; perform basic first aid as required; swim at a level necessary to ensure personal safety; read and write the English language at a level sufficient for satisfactory job performance; perform arithmetic calculations at a level sufficient for satisfactory job performance; enforce County ordinances and Marina rules and regulations in a courteous and firm manner; communicate in an appropriate manner with supervisors, peers, subordinates, the general public and others who have interest in the Marina's operations; train and/or lead a work crew when assigned; work different shifts, weekends, holidays and to wear a uniform.
