Job Overview:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated Electrical Engineer to serve as Head of Avionics to lead our client's spacecraft avionics department. This role involves comprehensive oversight of spacecraft electrical systems, working closely with senior engineering leaders and management to design, implement, and validate innovative avionics solutions.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and integration of spacecraft avionics subsystems, including power management systems, battery modules, sensors, control electronics, and communication interfaces.
  • Drive the design process from conceptualization through schematic capture, PCB layout (Altium preferred), simulation, prototyping, and final integration.
  • Oversee and coordinate the development of rigorous testing procedures and quality assurance processes for flight hardware, ensuring compliance with mission-specific requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Assembly, Integration, and Test (AIT), ensuring seamless transition from design to build and flight readiness.
  • Manage technical documentation and configuration control across multiple spacecraft builds and project milestones.
  • Implement best practices in avionics engineering, working alongside executive technical leadership to continuously improve design methodologies and reliability.
  • Provide expert-level technical reviews of electronic systems and PCB layouts.
  • Lead planning and execution of environmental and qualification testing (including thermal vacuum, vibration, radiation tolerance, EMI/EMC, etc.).


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related technical discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive experience in electronics and avionics system design, preferably in spacecraft or aerospace applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in PCB schematic design, layout, and manufacturing processes.
  • Proven capability in managing complex technical projects, with accountability for subsystem performance and delivery.
  • Experience working with environmental qualification testing and compliance standards relevant to spacecraft avionics.


Compensation:

  • Annual Base Salary Range: $150,000 - $205,000 per year, plus bonuses and equity incentives.


Requirements:

This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. ยง 1324b(a)(3) is required.
