Shift Type All Job Type Seasonal/Sessional Date Posted By 7/26/2021 Date Posting Closes 8/9/2021 Time Posting Closes: 5:00 p.m. Category Recreation Career Level Entry Level Education Some High School Salary Payband/Range $16.36 - $17.36 (Train Driver)/$15.44 - 16.38 (Events Assistant) Job Description **Train Driver:** Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer Community & Special Events, the Train Driver will be responsible for the safe operation of the Tim Hortons Express Train at Fairy Lake, and other locations as necessary, during various Town-sponsored events, i.e. the Festival of Lights; assists the hostess/host with the boarding and unboarding of passengers on the train.

**Community Events Assistant:** Under the direction of the Recreation Programmer Community & Special Events, the Events Assistant is responsible to coordinate, monitor and organize activities, performers and attendees for community and special events.

Job Requirements **Train Driver:** *All of the qualifications of the Events Assistant below, in addition to the following:*

1. A valid Ontario Class G drivers license in good standing with the ability to undertake the safe operation of a train. A clean drivers abstract satisfactory to the Town is required at the time of hire.

2. Previous experience with Town of Newmarket and Town of Newmarket events.

3. Excellent customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.

**Community Events Assistant:**

1. Previous experience coordinating, organizing and implementing events and/or activities.

2. Previous experience in overseeing others in a recreation environmental/facility/event.

3. Familiar with Town of Newmarket and Town of Newmarket events.

4. Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills.

5. Ability to deal courteously and effectively with all levels of staff, Council Members, and the general public.

6. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

7. Availability/flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays and split shifts.

8. Ability to work outdoors for up to 10 hours.

9. Demonstrated knowledge of health and safety legislation and associated procedures as it delates to ensuring the health and safety of patrons.

10. Current Standard First Aid & CPR-C certification required.

11. Due to the nature of the contacts of this position a Police Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the Town is required.
